12. Yang's Trial

Enemies: Soldier Monk, Super Monk, Drillmaster, Lunar Titan
Treasures: GauntletDiscipline Armlet

When you step in, you’ll find that Yang takes the lead, saying the area looks like a training area. You’ll see a disembodied voice identifying himself as Lunar Titan challenging your strength. That can only mean one thing: prepare for battle. When you walk forward, you’ll get drawn into battle with a clan of monks. It’s a pretty straight-forward battle. The monks have some low-power hits. You’ll find they dissipate unlike other monsters, meaning the battles last longer. Casting magic is pretty ineffective, so stick with physical attacks. After battling the Soldier Monks, you’ll encounter the tougher Super Monks. Just like you would assume, they just higher HP and hit a little bit harder. But just dole out the heavy hits and the midget monks will be worked. After a couple battles with them, you’ll get tested to the limits with even more monks coming after you, these ones identified as Drillmasters. Like the ones before them, they’ll hit harder and stay around longer. If you keep curing and drilling out the hits, though, they’ll go down. After taking out a number of them, the big guy himself comes and stops the minor skirmishes so he can challenge you himself.

Strategy

This guy is a behemoth. He has very strong physical attacks, and like his Earth brethren, he wallops you with a powerful Earthquake attack. A quick OFloat fixes that. On top of that, he also has a gradual petrification move, as well as Crush, which you should all be well familiar with from Evil Wall. He also has an obscene amount of HP, meaning you're in for a long battle no matter how leveled you are. But for all that, he does have some pretty low defense, and is very susceptible to physical attacks, especially Yang. He'll smack LT for some big damage every time. And by now, his speed will be off the charts. So keep him just attacking, steering away from using Power as that just takes away time. Have your other characters use their specialty. Keep the powerhouses drilling, the black mages dishing out their best stuff, and white mages curing from the brutal hits Titan dishes out. Eventually, he'll fall like a tree during logging season.

Once he dies, he’ll give you his grimoire as well as a stellar defensive item suited especially for the master monk in your party. This special armlet gives Yang the power of Deadly, which is like Power, except it does triple the damage, making it even more useful.
