Site Miscellany (Updates!)
- There is a new CoNPoll on the main site, dealing with FF12.
- We've added a new affiliate, Square Sound, who specializes in music from Square games.
- Added two tools to edit DexDrive-format savegames for FFT.
- Added four tools to edit FF6 ROMs.
- Added a selector in your forum controls so you can display your gender in your profile.
- Added twenty-four new fanarts from Kobayashi, Narratorway, and Kame.
- Finally disabled signature images in the forums (OK, so only the staff will cheer about that).
Hope you enjoy all the new stuff!

New FFIV Fanfiction
It is an in-game fanfiction, and I encourage you all to check it out if you have not done so yet.
Remember, we accept fanfiction submissions for FF4, FF5, FF6 and FFT, so if you have one you'd like to submit, make your way to the Site Submissions forums. If you're not a writer yourself, you can help out the authors by reading and commenting on fanfiction, as well as fanart.

IMPORTANT: Accessing the Site
If this happens to you between Tuesday and Thursday, please email me (rangers51 at cavesofnarshe.com) and describe exactly what happens when you try to access the site. Also include your ISP if you know it. FuitadNet staff and I are researching what is causing the problem and how we can work around it.
This is happening with all sites on our server, so don't worry that CoN is broken. Thanks for your help.

Site Moved
We're now primarily using the cavesofnarshe.com URL rather than the OPGaming.com subdomain we used previously. We'd like to thank Rubicant and OPGaming for their gracious offer of hosting, which we have used largely without incident since early 2002, and HostRocket, who host that domain.

I Promised Geeky Stats for You All:
The stats program for our website categorizes traffic to the site on several categories. Briefly, here's a rundown of how that works:
Quote
Hits represent the total number of requests made to the server during the given time period (month, day, hour etc.). This is the total of all pages, images, etc. that the user gets - so, if the user visits a page that has four images, the hit total is five.
Files represent the total number of hits (requests) that actually resulted in something being sent back to the user. Not all hits will send data, such as 404-Not Found requests and requests for pages that are already in the browsers cache.
Sites is the number of unique IP addresses/hostnames that made requests to the server.
Visits occur when some remote site makes a request for a page on your server for the first time. As long as the same site keeps making requests within a given timeout period, they will all be considered part of the same Visit.
Pages are those URLs that would be considered the actual page being requested, and not all of the individual items that make it up (such as graphics and audio clips). Some people call this metric page views or page impressions, and defaults to any URL that has an extension of .htm, .html or .cgi.

Why is this important, you ask? Well, it will help you understand the following numbers:

October 2003 Stats
Sites: 32457
Visits: 27542
Pages: 129633
Files: 1664567
Hits: 2419459
Sites: 32457
Visits: 27542
Pages: 129633

Now, you might be wondering why that info is important. More likely, you've already figured it out. But for the sake of argument, I'll spell it out here: each one of those numbers is the highest the site has ever recorded. Ever. The basic upshot is that October of 2003 has been, yet again, the biggest month for traffic that the site has ever had. Several months this year have had high numbers in one category or another, but October is the first month that we have ever set records in every category across the board.
In other news, while October was a relatively quiet month in chat, chatstats will show you one fun little fact; since we first started tracking chat stats in January of 2002, we have logged over one million lines in channel #narshe.
Thanks to all the loyal visitors, yet again, who have made this possible!
