E3 2013 Recapping: CoNCast Episode Eight

Podcast
This week's title sounds a bit like "kneecapping." However, this week's crew was really, legitimately excited about a lot of E3 2013 and as such we mostly didn't turn the snark up to crippling levels. We had some miscommunications around episode eight that ended up nixing our original plans for the episode theme - was lucky for us, then, that we had E3 the week before recording and we had a lot to say about it. Lucky even moreso because the very time we recorded was the time that Microsoft were making their epic turnaround on their always-online, Kinect-watches-you-sleep plan.

Because of all that, we had good times! We talked quite a bit about the E3 that Square Enix had (spoilers: general consensus was that it was quite good), and we also hit all of the other big names in gaming briefly. There are plenty of references to 80's pop culture, and even, I do believe, a nice callout to Fisherman's Horizon - at least, if it didn't get cut. I can never remember what I leave on the cutting room floor. Anyway, join me, Tiddles, lasz and Jav for episode eight, available right now for streaming or in the source links for subscription time.

Crowdfunding and Pre-E3: CoNcast Episode Seven

Podcast
For this edition of the CoNcast, the group takes EvilEye under our guidance to talk about the newest big thing in the production side of video games: Crowdfunding. Sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo are making the early stages of game development more social, direct, and to an extent, even democratized. For some games, it's great, and for for others it's just another buzzword, and we're talking about it on the CoNcast right now - we even hypothesize what might happen if Square Enix decided to give crowdfunding a try; spoiler alert, the answer is generally "a gaming apocalypse."

Since E3 is more or less underway right now, we also take a few minutes to talk about to what we're looking forward out of the show this year. Another spoiler - the cynics that make up your favorite podcasting crew are a bit "meh" on the whole thing.

CoNcast Episode Sixbox One

Podcast
We recorded just after the announcement last week of the Xbox One. So, naturally, we joined in on tearing it up a bit. We also talked a little bit about what Square Enix might be willing to do for the console, but it's a little hard to tell since we barely know what they're doing for any consoles right now.

Additionally, I'm sick through the whole thing, Tiddles might be outing himself as an eBay scammer, and we had a couple minor hiccups in recording because we tried to get together over a new medium this time around. We do get into a lot of good detail about what's happening with the new Microsoft machine, though, so enjoy!

Final Fantasy Stories: CoNcast Episode Five

Podcast
The CoNcast gang digresses immediately in this episode, becoming waylaid by the simple fact that one person is playing Skyrim and two more are playing Bioshock Infinite. Recovering a bit, I then elect to thoroughly entertain everyone by talking about the progress being made in the new Final Fantasy VI content. Finally, we each take a stab at the myriad circumstances that brought us to the Final Fantasy series and also to CoN, inspired by this recent forum topic.

This one was a tricky one to edit, let me tell you! We had to shave out almost 40% of the entire recording to get to a runtime that wouldn't induce tears in our listeners. However, it does give us a lot of fodder if we ever want to have an outtakes show, so there's that.

A Change of Pace: CoNcast Episode Four

Podcast
Things are a little different this time around for the CoNcast. Lasz took the day off, so, for the first time we're rounding out our four with a special guest: longtime CoN member Jav, also known as Dragon Fire here at the forums. Jav's delivered to us for this episode a brand new, never-before-heard theme tune, and he joins me, Tiddles, and DP to talk about it a bit.

While we're on the subject of music, we delve into the concept of the gaming-related mobile phone ringtone. It seems like anyone who really wants to make sure that everyone knows they're a Final Fantasy fan has a version of the victory fanfare on their mobile, so we instead have a look deeper to see what other tracks would make good ringtones for the gamer who always has their phone on their person, both from within the Final Fantasy series and further out into gaming as a whole.

We're talking about so much media this time around that you get extra links. First, of course, to the podcast itself, but then we have two others! If you want to hear the full version of Jav's chiptune theme, called "Neko Neko Mawaii," we've got it on YouTube, and then we've also made a YouTube playlist of all of the music we talked about ringtone-ifying as well. Enjoy!

CoNcast Episode Three Makes Fools of Us All

Podcast
The third episode of the CoNcast is live as of right now, and this time around we've got a look back at some gaming and entertainment April Fool's jokes from this year, as well as a brief retrospective on a couple that we ourselves have done both this year and in the past.

Later on, we discuss the new announcement that Bravely Default has finally been confirmed for a Western release, and we also give some time to the slightly older announcement that - surprise! - a Final Fantasy game is planned for the PlayStation 4. What do we think that game might be? You'll have to listen to find out, but you've probably figured it out on your own already, haven't you, clever little one.

Listen closely and you can also hear Death Penalty be accidentally politically incorrect. Listen less closely and you can hear the entire cast harass Death Penalty for nearly an hour.

Finally, we've got podcast feeds available! They should appear in every news article we make about podcasts from now on, and I'll soon be working on making them available more easily on the site homepage as well. Also, if you're reading this, you can simply click the links here for the raw feed and for the direct iTunes link. Note: Some browsers may not let you subscribe to the feeds directly, so please feel free to respond if you are having issues subscribing!
