Alone. Sigh. Can't very well wage a war against Golbez by yourself, now can you? Oh well. Head east and you'll come across Mysidia.
Waaaaaait... Mysidia? Uh-oh. The very town you ransacked at the beginning of the game. They must've forgotten all about that by now, right? Right? It's been (game) hours! Don't count on it, it's not like they get beat up by purple-clad knights every day. You have no choice but to ask for help, but still be careful who you talk to. You may end up getting an unwanted change in your visage, so keep your wits about you—or just head straight to the center building to avoid running in to anyone with a grudge. Talk to the elder and ask for help. He'll tell you that you'll never be able to defeat the darkness of evil as long as Cecil is a dark knight. He tells him to climb Mt. Ordeals to the east and take on the trials to become something much more honorable than a dark knight: a paladin. Since the trip will be perilous, he assigns two of his mages to join you, a young set of twins. Say hello to Palom and Porom.
At first, this seems like a joke, but this is what you get for the trip to Mt. Ordeals, so you might as well get used to it. Don't worry, though, they are highly useful despite their obvious comic relief. Stop by the weapon and armor shop to get them fully equipped, and hey, it also might prove to be wise to buy some of the paladin equipment if you can afford it. You know, just in case the Elder's not jerking your chain. As soon as you're ready, head east to Mt. Ordeals.
