19. I Feel Naked Without My Plate Mail

Enemies: Cait Sith, Ogre, Cave Bat, Hell Needle, Cave Naga, Twin Snake, Mind Flayer, Draculady
Treasures: OHi-Potion, OEther, ClawFairy Claw, 2000 Gil , Spider's Silk, Hourglass, Unicorn Horn, Emergency Exit

It'll be rather evident in your first encounter that battles are much more difficult without normal equipment. You'll sustain triple digit damage on attacks, and your HP will get sent right out the window. Just know there is no shame in running when the time calls for it. Live to fight another day, I always say.

It's pretty easy going as far as navigation is concerned. Make your way to the next section. Going left brings you to a treasure. Then, head up. There's a bridge that leads to a door. Inside that door is a pair of treasure chests. Exit the room, then head left and onto the next section. The door you see as you come out leads to a save point which I'm sure you're extremely happy to see. Heal, save, and continue. The next door you see leads to a trio of chests ready for the robbing. Head back on the trail and through the long hall. Nab the chest and move on. As soon as you get across the bridge, you'll notice a candelabra leading up to the door. You must be close. Before you enter, go around the room to get the visible treasure chest. Once you get it, head into the door. You'll be in a room that resembles a crystal room. Get ready to do battle for the fate of the crystal.

You will receive a beatdown. Enjoy it. Teamwork will once again save the day.

Strategy

This battle is very tough. Dark Elf has a number of strong attacks. The one he uses the most often is the trifecta of OFira, OBlizzara, and OThundara which takes a huge chunk of HP away. In fact, it may even be dealt as a deathblow to Tellah if his HP isn't high enough. The name of the game is keeping your HP up. If necessary, you may need to designate a second healer. Have Cid attack normally. For Yang, alternate between Power and his normal attack. Make sure you don't use Power too many times as it takes too long to pull off. Tellah is your quintessential healer. Have him use OCuraga every time you need it. If, and only if, everyone's HP is nearly full, have Tellah pull off a high level attack, such as OThundaga. Cecil is going to attack with his sword. However, if someone needs additional healing, have Cecil use OCura. If he doesn't have that yet, use a OHi-Potion. When he sustains enough damage, he'll transform.

Strategy

There are two ways of defeating him. You can continue using the same strategy you used for defeating Dark Elf — or, you can take advantage of one surprising trick. Unlike any other boss in the entire game, Dark Dragon is susceptible to OTornado. Have Tellah cast it to lower his HP to near death status. The next person up will knock him out with one swipe.

With the Dark Elf defeated, you're free to take the Earth Crystal. Have Tellah cast OTeleport and get the heck out of there.

Once you mount your black chocobo, it'll automatically go back to its home. From there, hitch a ride with a normal chocobo back to Troia. You're probably pretty beaten up, so why seek trouble?
