Biography

A knight with the power of the dark sword, serving as a mercenary and prone to a lack of morality and desire only for a paying job and possibly the opportunity to dirty his blade. In the outset, he leads the band of sellswords tasked with supporting Agrias' soldiers to protect Ovelia, and in this role he serves as Ramza's commander. He is drawn into the plot with Ramza, though only to ensure he collects the paycheck promised.

Once the princess has been found, though, Gaffgarion reveals that he has been working two contracts, accepting pay from the royal family to protect Ovelia while simultaneously working for Goltanna to facilitate her murder and cancel her claim to the throne. Upon learning this, Ramza drives him away, fighting him again later when the mercenary triggers an ambush. Gaffgarion is finally killed at the gates of Lionel when the final mission to rescue the princess takes place. It's unclear whether Ramza is then able to claim his rightful share of the pay.

Brave Story Entries

A sellsword hired by the Order of the Northern Sky to escort Princess Ovelia to Eagrose. He once served as a division commander in the Order of the Eastern Sky in the Fifty Years' War. But at war's end, Gaffgarion was expelled from the Eastern Order as a result of the barbaric methods he willfully employed to ensure victory.

In the following years, he formed a unit of swords-for-hire comprised of bandits, outlaws, and other soldiers cut from the same cloth as he. Gaffgarion became infamous as a man for whom no task was too unsavory, and one who would stop at nothing to earn his ill-gotten coin.

A sellsword hired by the Order of the Northern Sky to escort Princess Ovelia to Eagrose. However, his true mission, one that came at the behest of Count Dycedarg, was to assist in ensuring the swift and successful kidnapping of the princess. And yet, due to Delita's spiriting away of Ovelia, and later Ramza's opposition, these plans ended in failure.

Gaffgarion later conspired with Cardinal Delacroix, liege lord of Lionel, to seize a Zodiac Stone, but the trap they set at the Golgollada gallows was foiled. He was killed soon after in a battle at the gates of Lionel Castle.
