Locales Glossary

There are not many Final Fantasy games as information-dense as Tactics. It's not any shame to sometimes lose track of where you're at in the game, both in terms of plot or setting. Here's a transcription of the many Locales described in the Chronicles of the newest version of the game, to help you maintain your bearings. Be aware that this shows the entirety of the Chronicle for this section, so there will be spoilers unmarked!

Ivalice

IvaliceA kingdom ruled by the Atkascha royal family; its capital is Lesalia. Once divided into several independent domains vying for supremacy, Ivalice is now a unified realm comprising six fiefdoms: Gallionne, Fovoham, Lesalia, Lionel, Limberry, and Zeltennia. Conflict with surrounding nations, too, has been frequent, with the recent Fifty Years' War, waged with neighboring Ordallia, coming to a close when a peace treaty was forged.

Ordallia

OrdalliaA kingdom to the east of Ivalice, with a land border along the province of Zelmonia; its capital is Viura. Though the two nations share a royal bloodline, conflict erupted between them over succession to the Ordallian throne, which manifested in the Fifty Years' War. In the closing stages of that half-century of bloodshed, Varoi VI was succeeded by Lennard, who has ruled there to this day.

Romanda

RomandaA powerful military nation situated to the northwest of Ivalice, across the Rhana Strait. During the Fifty Years' War, Romanda was called upon by Ordallia, with whom it shares a royal bloodline, to field its forces against Ivalice.

The Holy Ydoran Empire

A great empire that existed in the time of Saint Ajora; its capital is thought to have been named Mullonde, although records suggest it was situated in a different location than the present-day Ivalician holy site of the same name. The city was the seat of Pharism, the prevailing faith in the empire, whose priests wielded vast influence.

Gallionne

GallioneA fiefdom in western Ivalice; its liege lord is Duke Larg. Eagrose, where Larg maintains his primary residence, is a fortified city second in size only to the royal capital Lesalia, and garrison to a vast number of troops, the Order of the Northern Sky chief among them. Gallionne is also home to the Royal Military Akademy and Royal Akademy for the Magickal Arts, both situated in Gariland. Mandalia Plain, known for its sprawling fields and gentle hills, is a haven for all manner of creatures, from wild chocobos to goblins.

Fovoham

FovohamA fiefdom in northwest Ivalice; its liege lord is Grand Duke Barrington. The region has long been plagued by pirates and foreign invaders, and Riovanes, the seat of the grand duke's authority, is home to a castle purpose-built for war. The Walled City of Yardrow, situated near the coastline, rests behind concentric bulwarks, and has spent much of its history warding off attacks. The region's wilderness makes for treacherous passage, with towering cliffs, rough-hewn valleys, and fierce fauna.

Lesalia

LesaliaA region in central Ivalice under the direct rule of the Atkascha royal family. At its heart lies the royal capital and castle of the same name, with a luxurious keep rising high over the city. This vast domain is home to the Mining Town of Gollund, situated along one of the kingdom's foremost mining belts, and the Merchant City of Dorter, a bustling hub for trade over land and sea both. It also boasts diverse natural environments, with cascading waterfalls, seething volcanoes, and arid deserts that scorch by day and freeze by night.

Lionel

LionelA fiefdom in southern Ivalice; its liege lord is Cardinal Delacroix. A key region for the Holy Ydoran Empire prior to its fall, it serves as the setting for many a tale of Saint Ajora's vicissitudes. The fortified city of Zaland, regarded as the gateway to Lionel, holds great strategic importance. To the south lies Warjilis, the region's sole trading port, and on an island to the west is the Clockwork City of Goug.

ZeltenniaA fiefdom in eastern Ivalice; its liege lord is Duke Goltanna. Owing to its shared border with Ordallia, the region hosted much of the fighting of the Fifty Years' War, during which time Zeltennia Castle, the duke's main stronghold, was further reinforced. Prior to the conflict, trade had thrived between the region and Ordallia, but the breakdown of relations led to severe economic decline in the cities.

Midlight's Deep

Midlight's DeepThe name given to the mysterious caverns that stretch deep beneath a solitary isle on the East Bugross Sea. Though the isle was abandoned after the lighthouse that stands upon it was damaged during the Fifty Years' War, it has attracted new interest since rumors surfaced that fabulous treasures may be found in the caverns' depths. However, the way is fraught with fiendish traps and fell foes, among whom is a mage of terrible power, and to compound matters, the caverns are locked in total darkness.
