A monster hunter by trade, Beowulf pursues the Holy Dragon of legend.

The former leader of the Gryphon Knights of Lionel. The head of House Cadmus holds the position of baronet, but Beowulf, as second-born son, left home at a young age to join the Gryphons.

He was due to marry a woman named Reis, but as their wedding day neared, Beowulf was falsely accused of heresy and jailed. His accuser was Celebrant Bremondt, a member of the Church of Glabados, who had fallen in love with Reis. Beowulf escaped from imprisonment and killed Bremondt, but not before the priest placed a curse on Reis, transforming her into the Holy Dragon.

He wandered the land in search of his betrothed, and the two were eventually reunited with Ramza's help. Beowulf was able to use the power of a Zodiac Stone to lift the curse and return Reis to her human form.
