Biography

Edward is the Prince of Damcyan and the heir to the throne after the deaths of his parents. He is frail and lacking in self-confidence, but his aid proves invaluable.

Additional Information

Edward's entrance into the story is marred by tragedy. His castle is in ruins, the Crystal of Fire stolen, and his beloved Anna lies dying in his arms. Though the culprit of these sad events is easily identified, Edward's inclination is not revenge, but despair. He is unswayed by Tellah's scorn and Cecil's attempts at reason, but Rydia's derisive demand that he act like a grown-up finally gets his attention. When Cecil explains that he desperately needs Edward's help in procuring the Sand Ruby so he can save Rosa, Edward pulls himself from his melancholy to prevent Cecil from losing the one he loves.

Even after Rosa's health is restored, Edward's depression lingers. He doubts his own worth, questioning whether he deserves to live. Suddenly, the ghostly form of Anna appears, and the apparition exhorts him to believe in his own power and continue living. Edward finds the strength to go on without her and joins the fight against Golbez in earnest.

Though Edward puts all of his effort into fighting alongside Cecil, he is no warrior. He lacks stamina and strength, and his weakness during the fight for Fabul provokes a crisis when he falls, forcing the others to rally around him. He is helpless as Cecil is defeated and Rosa is kidnapped, but perserveres and signs on to assault Baron by sea. Unfortunately, he is swept overboard when Leviathan strikes and lost to the roiling waters.

Some time later, Cecil's party encounters him in Troia, where he is being cared for after apparently being rescued. Edward's health is still fragile, but he bravely tries to rise and rejoin the fight. When he cannot summon the strength necessary even to stand, Tellah declares that he's nothing but a weakling and a burden, and even Cecil encourages him to rest and regain his strength. Unable to accompany his friends into battle, Edward instead sends with them a magical harp that he hopes will be of use.

Later, as Cecil and his allies are crushed in the fight against the Dark Elf, Edward senses their distress. He forces himself to rise, shaking off his nurses and doctors, and stumbles to his harp. As he plays a beautiful melody upon the instrument, the same song is heard emanating from its twin in Cecil's possession. The music weakens the Dark Elf and allows Cecil to triumph. His strength spent, Edward is returned to bed, but he has finally proven himself a worthy and invaluable ally.

After the final battle, Edward dedicates his efforts to rebuilding Damcyan. Anna still lives on in his heart.
