Biography

Marle is a young girl living in 1000 A.D. unfamiliar with Truce Village who asks Crono to show her around the Millennial Fair. Marle’s cherished family heirloom, a pendant with mysterious powers, causes a malfunction in Lucca’s teleportation device and sends her back in time to 600 A.D., where Crono soon follows to rescue her. Marle’s presence in 600 A.D. sets off a chain of events that may erase her from history permanently without some quick work.

In battle, Marle is perhaps the game’s worst offensive character but best on defense. Her physical attack (based on Hit rather than Power) is the weakest in the game, and her magic attacks pale in comparison to those of Magus, Lucca, and even Crono by game’s end. Still, Marle has good Magic, Magic Defense, and MP, average Speed, and a number of very useful defensive spells. As a Water-element character, Marle receives less damage from Water attacks. Marle learns four healing spells that are each incredibly useful when they are learned as well as the OHaste spell, which increases Speed to great effect in battle. Several of Marle’s Dual Techs and Triple Techs are healing abilities, and others deal powerful Water and Shadow damage. At the end of the game Marle is most useful as the game’s premier healer and also for her role in a few useful Dual Techs and Triple Techs.
