Biography

A level-headed, intelligent scientist, Shera is quiet and very complacent. She lives with Cid, and seems to absorb his angry words and harsh commands expectantly, as though she deserves the treatment. Formerly, she was working on the Shinra 26 in Rocket Town, but currently her hardest task seems to be homemaking.

Additional Information

Though the failure of Rocket Town's ill-fated space program is well known, the true story behind its cause is an interesting tale. Some would say (and Cid would agree) that the fault of the space program's demise lies on the head of Shera. A few late test results on the craft left her unsatisfied, and she decided to take matters into her own hands shortly before take-off.

Without letting anyone know, Shera went down to check on the oxygen tanks. Little did she know that the rocket's crew had long since ordered the take-off, and Cid had orders to begin the launch immediately. In the middle of the countdown, Cid was suddenly informed that Shera was down in the lower chambers. He knew well that the extreme heat caused by the launch would fry her to a crisp. Cid ordered her out of the room immediately, but Shera stubbornly refused, perfectly willing to give her life for the project if only to ensure a safe and successful voyage.

Cid was then faced with a complicated moral dilemma: should he save a helpless innocent, or ignore her in favor of finally achieving his lifelong dream? With a heavy heart, Cid realized that he couldn't sacrifice anyone, and decided to abandon the launch altogether. After the failed attempt, Shinra decided it would be in their best interests to drop the program entirely, and the Shinra 26 remained dormant for the years to come.

In many ways, Cid blamed Shera for the incident. For her part, the young scientist felt terrible about what she saw as a personal failure; to make amends, she decided to stay with Cid as something akin to his personal servant. From the day she stepped into Cid's willful employ, she happily endured countless orders and scathing verbal abuse as penance for her incompetence.

Despite this, it could be said that Cid does care for Shera in a roundabout sort of way, in the same way he cares for most everyone else he is close with.
