Biography

Sabin is a martial artist and student of Duncan. Prior to this, he was a prince of Figaro along with his twin brother, Edgar. Sabin left Figaro after Edgar became king, and when the two brothers reunite Edgar can hardly believe how muscular his brother has become. Sabin joins the party after Terra, Locke, and Edgar help him defeat Vargas, Duncan's resentful son. After encountering Ultros for the first time, Sabin is separated from the rest of the group and ends up traveling to Doma, Mobliz, and Nikeah and befriending Cyan and Gau before reuniting with Terra and the others in Narshe.

Several years in the past, Sabin had decided that he didn't want to be the new king of Figaro after the deaths of his and Edgar's parents. He was happy and relieved to lose the coin toss to determine the new king of Figaro; it wasn't until years later that Edgar revealed that he had rigged the coin flip for Sabin's sake. In the World of Ruin, Sabin can be the second ally recruited if Celes visits Tzen before traveling through the former Serpent Trench. In Tzen, Sabin is holding up part of a home's ceiling to prevent a cave-in, and Celes must rescue a child trapped inside before Sabin's strength gives out; Sabin joins up with Celes immediately afterwards. Sabin can learn the ultimate Blitz technique, Bum Rush, by locating his former master Duncan's cabin east of Narshe.

Gameplay

Sabin has high Strength, Speed, and Stamina but low Magic, making his primary role in battle as a physical attacker quite obvious. He can only equip light armor, light shields, and claw weapons, but Sabin is consistently a source of big physical damage throughout the game. Sabin's Blitz attacks require button inputs similar to those in fighting games - AuraBolt uses the same button combination as the Hadouken skill in Street Fighter, maybe not by coincidence. Several skills in the Blitz moveset are powerful indeed, and add to Sabin's versatility in combat. For whatever reason, most of Sabin's Blitz attacks use Magic instead of Strength in their damage formulas, so players shouldn't neglect his Magic stat if they plan on using Blitz often. Special Skill: Blitz

Sabin can execute the Blitz attacks by means of pressing the correct button sequence. Blitz attacks are learned by gaining levels:

Level 1: Pummel (Single-target physical, non-elemental barrier-piercing attack)
Level 6: Aurabolt (Single-target magical, Holy-elemental attack)
Level 10: Suplex (Single-target physical, non-elemental barrier-piercing attack)
Level 15: Fire Dance (Multi-target magical, Fire-elemental attack)
Level 23: Mantra (Heals all characters but the caster for the amount of the caster's current HP / number of characters.)
Level 30: Air Blade (Multi-target magical, Wind-elemental attack)
Level 42: Spiraler (Heals all characters and removes negative status effects. Kills user.)
Level 70: Bum Rush (Single-target magical, non-elemental barrier-piercing attack)

The Blitz techniques can be executed as follows:

Pummel: Left, Right, Left
Aurabolt: Down, Down/Left, Left
Suplex: R, L, Down, Up
Fire Dance: Left, Left/Down, Down, Down/Right, Right
Mantra: R, L, R, L, Up, Down
Air Blade: Up, Up/Right, Right, Right/Down, Down, Down/Left, Left
Spiraler: R, L, Up, Down, Right, Left
Bum Rush: Left, Left/Up, Up, Up/Right, Right, Right/Down, Down, Down/Left, Left

An alternate way to do Blitzes which most people find more fail-proof and easier to input, is by converting the diagonals into double arrow input. Any diagonal can be input by pressing either of the two directions that make up the diagonal.
