18. Break the Seal!
Enemies: | Nereid, Egder, Krawlie, Beast |
Treasures: | 600G, Rage Band, ![]() |
Follow the path around, fighting the enemies. When you see some frogs, you know that you're going the right way. Go down the ladder and to the left and read the cryptic note that talks about fishmen attacking at the slightest noise. That's a clue not to touch anything on this floor: the cat, the cheese, the can, even the save point. Climb up the ladder at the end.
Up a ways you'll need to walk through the wall and activate the switch, then walk through it again a little further up and go through the door that you just activated. Walk further and you'll have to fight Krawlie, the "boss". Afterwards, continue on and get the treasures, then leave. This area is straightforward.
The Nu won't respond much if you talk to him, so go North and open the door. There are a bunch of glimmering spots on the floor here that will give you information about Lavos and other things. Afterwards, go through the second sealed door, look at the machine at the top, then try to leave. The Nu will come back up and reveal itself as one of the Gurus, Belthasar. You'll learn about the machine and get to name it, and now you can travel in your time machine without worrying about gates! Right before getting in the machine, though, go back into the hallway with the glimmering spots and collect a Magic Tab.
Travel back in time to 12,000 B.C. The Skyways are sealed, so head west to the Terra Cave.
The Terra Cave holds the village of Algetty, that of the Earthbound Ones. They lacked magical powers, so they were not allowed in Zeal, the kingdom in the sky. Those who have magical powers are called Enlightened Ones. Here you learn more about the Guru of Life and how he was banished to the Mountain of Woe. There's a shop here with excellent weapons and armor - buy the weapons and armor for the characters that you want to use for the next couple of dungeons, otherwise you might not have enough money. Remember not to sell the elemental Mail or Vests! Head all the way down to the bottom and enter the Beast's Nest. Collect the Power Tab at the entrance, fight two battles with Beasts, and prepare yourself for a boss.
