The Denadoro Mountains are full of enemies called Ogan (Hammer)s that are Ogans with large hammers. As long as they have their hammer, they have high defense and attack power. Make sure that you bring Lucca to this area, as her fire-elemental spells will burn the hammers and reduce them to meager Ogans.
As you enter, you'll most likely be attacked by the two Bellbirds and the two Ogans. Although it is possible to avoid them, it's difficult. Grab the 300G from the chest and walk towards the ladder. A boy, who is supposedly the "Legendary Hero," will yell and come running down, chased by a Ogan. Defeat it and the boy will issue a warning about leaving the mountains, saying that they're too dangerous. An Ogan (Hammer) will follow. Burn it and defeat it. Before climbing the ladder, head to the right and go through the trees and grab a

Snatch the Athenian Water and Ether from the chests in this area, then fight the Ogan (Hammer) and the Freelancer. Head forward, fighting the Ogan (Hammer) and the Ogan, and grab the 500G from the chest. Many of the next enemies are avoidable, so it's possible to get through the forest area without too much trouble. Grab all the chests and exit past the last Freelancer.
This area has no enemies, but a Freelancer will hurl rocks at you. Grab the Mid-Ether from the chest and move along. In the next section, open the chest and fight the enemies. You'll enter a summit of sorts where you'll fight four straight battles. After fighting them, move to the next area.
The next area allows you to get some great accessories, but you'll have to go through some of the mountain again. Your characters have the ability to fall down the waterfall in two different places here, one to the far left and one to the right. Falling to the left gets you a Silver Stud, which cuts MP use by 50%, and the Silver Earring, which raises Max HP by 25%. Falling to the right only gets you the Silver Earring. Continue on afterwards, grabbing the Mid-Potion.
In the next area, talking repeatedly to the Spekkio-like creature will net you a Magic Capsule, proving that sometimes it pays to be annoying. Continue and use a shelter while saving at the save point. Climb down the next ladder and grab the Mid-Ether, then grab the Speed Capsule hidden in the corner.
You probably have learned Cure for Marle, Spincut for Crono, and Napalm for Lucca. This will allow you to learn two new Dual Techs. You should try to get these before fighting the area boss if they haven't been learned yet.
You'll be attacked by a rock-throwing Freelancer again in the next area. As you avoid the Ogans and climb up the ladder, the Freelancer will push you down and you'll be thrust into combat. Afterwards, climb up the ladder once or twice more and you can enter the cave. There, you'll find two young children who won't let you to the Masamune quite yet.

Double Hand Chop Hurricane Vacuum Wave | Slash [Lightning] Strategy This guy can be difficult. Attacking the same way as in the previous battle can be effective, even more so if you switch to Fire Sword or Ice Sword and healing with Aura Whirl when your HP gets low. When he stores his Tornado Energy, be sure to have Crono use Wind Slash lest you want to get hit by a massive attack (About 130 HP damage to everyone simultaneously). | |
After winning you'll get the broken Masamune, but only the blade. Masa and Mune will offer to transport you out of the mountain, which is a huge bargain, so let them do it.
After returning from the mountain, head to Tata's house in Porre (It's small and on the west end of the south complex). He'll give you the Hero's Badge if you speak with him, saying that Frog dropped it in a cafe. Return to the Cursed Woods to speak to Frog.
You can find a new enemy in the Cursed Woods now - a Nu. These guys are irritating because you can only fight them by approaching other enemies while Nu is on the screen. Nu constantly takes your HP down to one, and if there are other enemies on the screen, they can kill you quickly. Take out the rest of the enemies first, then kill the Nu - you get a whopping 30 tech points if you win.
Talk to Frog and he'll move out of the way of the chest, which contains the hilt of the broken Masamune. Lucca or Robo, depending on who is in your party, will read the hilt, and Melchior's name shows up. Return to the End of Time and head to Melchior's Hut via Medina Village. Melchior will explain that the sword is made of Dreamstone, which hasn't been around for many years. Return back to the End of Time for now.
