Job Description

What's worse than a Mage without Magic Power? A rogue without Strength or Agility! The Dancer is a horrible Job. They can wield only knives, and they are plagued with the worst Stamina in the game. You'll be tempted to put them in the Front Row, with disastrous results. The only things that makes a Dancer different from a Thief without Steal are !Dance and the ability to equip the Ribbon set of items: the KnifeMan-Eater, the AccessoryRibbon, the ArmorRainbow Dress and the AccessoryRed Slippers. Though the later two are only there to inspire better use of the !Dance and !Flirt commands, the former two in combination add 7 to every stat, making the Dancer only moderately bad at everything. You can't go Barehanded with the Dancer since it'll die in the Front Row. You can't do anything but Summon Syldra effectively, but that means trading the KnifeMan-Eater for an KnifeAir Knife. Without the late-game Dancer-only equipment choices, the class really stinks. Bad, bad, bad. You might be bothered to get !Flirt for 25 ABP and then save the Dancer for later when !Dance is spiced up.

Job Ability Summary

!Flirt is a cute little stall option to stop anything not Heavy dead in its tracks for a single round. I like it in a party with Berserkers or other damage-heavy Berserk fighters; stall the enemy, let the others do the damage. !Dance needs special equipment that increases the likeliness of Sword Dance in order to be effective, and only Mages (who lack the Strength) have it: HelmetLamia's Tiara. I have used Red / Blue Mages with !Dance, a HelmetLamia's Tiara and a SwordRune Blade, though. Equip Ribbons is kewl on a Dragoon since the KnifeMan-Eater accidentally doubles damage on Jump, opening up a Dragoon with a AccessoryRibbon and a KnifeMan-Eater as a viable choice. It may also be useful on a Ninja, who can already do a lot of damage due to inherent Dual-Wield, or Black Mages and Summoners, who have all the offense they need as long as you can boost elements.

Transfer to Freelancer

Nothing. Freelancers can already equip AccessoryRibbon, which are awesome. !Dance is not very useful, and !Flirt pales in comparison to the horrible things you can do to non-Heavy targets in skillsets such as !Blue or !Mix. In Final Fantasy Tactics, only females could become Dancers. A Dancing Bartz, though dressed sharp, should be considered a laughing stock. AccessoryRibbon are female-only equipment, since they are Ribbons.
