You never see just where Kain brings you, but you can't think about that. After Golbez proposes that you hurry to the top floor before he offs Rosa, you'll gain control with three visible ways to go. They all lead to the same place, but if you go in the direction of the north east path, you'll find a treasure chest containing armor for Cecil. Head through the door onto the next level. Head down the hall and to the left. This part gets a bit confusing as there are many different doorways and corridors that lead to dead ends. But it's not that puzzling. Right before you reach the next door, you'll find a treasure chest. A warning to you: this is actually a monster-in-the-box. Defeat the monster and get a stronger sword for Cecil. Move onto the next level. There will be two ways to go this time, but again, they both lead the same place. Go the path more towards the bottom as it's less winding; fewer steps to chance encountering an enemy. The next door is all the way to the left of the hallway at the top of the screen.
Follow the hallway down. You'll eventually come to an intersection with one path leading up and another going right. If you go up, you'll come to three doors, all of which lead to a treasure chest. It's perilous to venture to get the treasures if you're weak, but they are very useful treasures, one being armor for Cecil, a better weapon for Cid, a better weapon for Yang, and better armor for Tellah.
Once you get those, head back down the hall and go to the right this time, which leads you to the next level. As you come down the hall, the first door you see will lead you to a save point, which I'm sure you're happy to see. Take the time to recover, save your game, then head out. Right as you reach the door to the top of the tower, you get accosted by the so-called Magus Sisters. They claim they serve Valvalis, the self-proclaimed Devil of Wind. You're going to have to get through them before you can save Rosa. So put your dukes up.

This battle is organized, but is actually pretty easy. At the start, they'll do what they call a Delta Attack. The bark is worse than the bite. Sandy will cast ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The strategy is simple for this battle, and it's based on one sole fact: Cindy has the power to revive her lost sisters. So if you take out Sandy or Mindy first, Cindy can revive them. That makes the strategy obviously to focus all attacks on Cindy and take her out first. If she goes down, the Delta Attack is disrupted and Sandy and Mindy are forced to use their other attacks. Before moving on, better head back to the save point and rest up. Golbez is just ahead.
Cecil and the group show up just in time to save Rosa from her undoing. She shows her gratitude and glee in seeing Cecil. After they get caught up in the recent happenings, Rosa and Kain both rejoin the group in their effort to stop Golbez.
Before you take another step, fully equip Rosa from her barebones equipment. Otherwise, she won't last one battle while escaping the tower. Once you're set on equipment, begin your descent back to the airship.
Or: don't.
Valvalis, the Element Fiend of Wind, makes her grand appearance. And her job is to make sure you don't make it out alive.

This battle is fairly tough. It's going to take some finesse and good timing to defeat the fiend. Valvalis is a formidable opponent. She starts out at a "rest stage", but will transform into a cyclone. This is where her most powerful attacks come from, including the brutal weakening spell of ![]() Valvalis also packs a wallop of a normal attack. Also in her arsenal of tricks is a move that slowly petrifies one of your characters. On top of it all, she has a lot of HP. So the battle could take more than a few minutes to triumph. Kain is going to be the x-factor in this fight. He says right before you battle that "Fighting in air is my specialty too." Obviously, therefore, have Kain use Jump. This will take away a good chunk of HP every time, but it also breaks the cyclone and brings Valvalis back to her "rest stage". Have him Jump every time. Cecil will be an attacker/healer. When everyone's HP is respectable, have him attack. But if someone's HP is in dire need of recovery, especially right after Valvalis uses ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||
After your battle, the whole tower begins to collapse. When it seems like you'd never make it out alive, Rosa saves you all by casting

The group discusses what to do next about Golbez and the crystals. Kain informs you that there are more than just the four crystals you know about. There are also dark crystals which lie below the surface in the mythical Underworld.
Kain presents the group an item that is used to enter the Underworld: a key. But where is it used? Cid suggests that you fly around the world until you find it. Lucky for you, this walkthrough lets you know where it is so you can avoid flying around aimlessly for hours on end.
Before you leave Baron, do you recall trying to go down one hall in the right most tower but not being able to? Try going back there now. Go through all the halls to the right most tower and down the hall. You'll get another reason to go underground—as if you needed another.
For now, just leave Baron.
